It is not uncommon for site owners to wonder why their site does not draw in very much free traffic from Google’s organic listings. More often than not, the problem lies within the quality of the textual content found on the web site. Here are some tips to help you to focus writing great quality articles.
The first rule whenever writing an article is to focus on a topic that users are interested in. If no one is searching for that topic, the article will not drive traffic from Google or any other search engine. Pick current topics that have not already been worked to death. Proper keyword research will determine which search phrases are used most often in searches. Select a popular search phrase as the topic of the article. If your site offers products, don’t simply provide a description about the products. Write about the many uses for the products, as well as important features and benefits. Product descriptions should be interesting and informational, not fluffy or full of marketing jargon.
Rule number two says that content taken from other web sites should never be used. Rewriting content that already exists on other web sites rarely ranks well today because Google’s Panda update algorithms have become smart enough to recognize similar content, and will penalize an article that is too similar to existing articles. It is okay to do research by reading related articles on other web sites, but never copy any article content, product specifications or other info directly from the sites. Instead, take notes regarding important points, and then write the article in your own words.
Rule number three says that you need to write the best articles about any chosen topic. If you sell products or services, write like the expert in your industry and provide useful and valuable information in your articles. If you have the best information on the web, people will find your site and many will start linking to the article as a resource to support their articles about the same topic.
Beyond the three most important rules, it is critically important to make sure that your site adheres to Google’s Webmaster Guidelines. Don’t try to stuff articles full of keywords and don’t engage in poor quality link building tactics. Although these flaky methods did work in the past, they no longer work today and can easily get a site penalized.
